The hall which was commissioned on 8th, July, 2011 together with two other halls in the University of Ghana, as part of measures by authorities of the university to curb the accommodation problems that was faced by students at the time, was officially inaugurated by Professor Ernest Aryeetey who is the current Vice Chancellor of the university.
The hall is situated some few meters from the university poolside, close to Okponglo. It is second in ascending order, in a row of four of the newly constructed halls to solve the accommodation problem of students of the university.
The hall was named after Professor Alexander Adum Kwapong who is an exceptional classicist and authority on higher education development. He participated in shaping the University of Ghana in its infant years and also served the then University College of Gold Coast from 1953 teaching Greek, Latin and Ancient History as a lecturer and he eventually became the first Ghanaian to be appointed as a Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana from 1966-1975.
Alexander Adum Kwapong Hall is a mixed hall with over four hundred (400) rooms. The administration of the hall is currently in the control of a Senior Common Room made of fifteen (15) tutors and the executive council of the Junior Common Room made of six (6) elected Junior Common Room members and an appointed legal advisor.
The hall organized its maiden polls on 9th, November, 2012 to elect its current J.C.R executives into office. Alexander Adum Kwapong Hall though young, has and continuous to aid the University in grooming the future leaders of the country.
The Alexander Adum Kwapong Senior Common Room is administered by;

The J.C.R’s system of governance, just like that ran by the Republic of Ghana, has an Executive Council headed by the JCR President, a Legislature christened Parliament headed by a Speaker and a Judiciary headed by a Chief Justice and like any other hall on the University Ghana Campus, is administered by a set of executives who have a term of office valid for twelve 12 months occupying the following positions;
